I was in the market for a UST for my new home theater that’s painted completely black with 0 ambient light. I did some extensive research online and bought this after watching the hookup comparison on YouTube and compared it myself against the Formovie Theater UST, which is in the same price range.
I made sure the comparison is 1:1 by using it in the same room on the same screen with 0 ambient light. I am attaching screenshots comparing the picture quality of both projectors. In all the pictures, the top one is a picture of Formovie theater and the bottom is from Nexigo Aurora Pro.
About the Nexigo Aurora Pro:
The product got delivered on time, was well packaged. Right out of the box, I didn’t like the build quality and felt like it wasn’t worth the price I paid. But I hooked it up in my theater room and gave it a try.
When I turned it on, the first thing I noticed was the fan noise. It wasn’t loud enough to disturb the sound of a movie when playing but I could hear it from 20 feet. The sound quality is okay for the in built speakers but compared to the inbuilt speakers of Formovie Theater, it wasn’t as good. I used it with a soundbar setup so I didn’t care much about the inbuilt speakers.
Since the first time I turned it on, the software was so weird not a single app opened. When I clicked on an app to open it, it would do nothing. I tried the software update several times and still the same result. That’s the second time I felt it’s not worth the money I paid and felt like it wasn’t gonna last long. I still wanted try the picture quality so I used it with a firestick and an Apple Tv on different occasions for a few weeks.
The picture quality was impressive. It has good brightness levels compared to the Formovie Theater. I felt the black levels were also pretty good. The sound quality through soundbar was not as good as it should be for Dolby Atmos compared to the Formovie.
Pros:
– Good brightness levels
– Good picture quality
– Good black levels
Cons:
– Bad build quality (Feels flimsy and bulky)
– Fan noise
– Garbage inbuilt software
– Not good enough Audio pass through quality
– Not good inbuilt speakers
– Just one year warranty
Conclusion:
After weighing all the pros and cons of the Nexigo Aurora pro, I decided to return it considering the bad build quality, the bulkiness and the flimsiness of the product.
I just didn’t feel confident that this product would last more than a year without something failing. For the price that it costs ($2699 before taxes) I felt it’s just not worth it.
The software of this product is absolute garbage, anyone who uses it definitely needs to invest in an apple TV or better for another $130+.
For the good picture quality that it provides, it maybe a decent product if it comes under 2k and comes with more than 2 years warranty.
